View Full Version : Door not registering as opened.

Hey guys,

I've noticed another minor fault in the recent buy. There's an intermittent problem with the driver's door where, if it's open, the car doesn't detect it. That is, the red light doesn't come on the dash and after a timeout period, the alarm will turn itself on with the door open. I can also hit the red button and arm the alarm with the door open without the car beeping at me. I still get the warning chime to let me know if the lights are open when I open the door I think, but as it's intermittent I'm not sure if it's just always worked at night.
This doesn't happen very often for that door, but the rear passenger side door which I almost never use has this problem permanently. The car never knows that door is open. All the locks work as normal, as do power windows. So I assume in the event of a break in, the alarm would still sound because the locks are always fine. It's just whatever sensor tells the car the door has been opened isn't always working on the driver door and is never working on rear passenger.

Any advice on what I need to get replaced or looked at? Cheers!

There is a trigger on each door (little black switch held in by one screw). Test each one, replace where needed.

It is the door light switch as well.
The drivers door switch works the most so is the most likely to fail.
Short term, as all the switches are identical a solution is to swap the faulty switch with, say, the RHR door.

Are these the same across all 3rd gens or do I have to hunt more specifically?

Will check it out when I get home tonight. Should point out, yes, the door doesn't activate the light when this is happening. The car behaves as though the door is still shut in all aspects.

Come out to a meet, I have a can of electrical co contact cleaner. Peel the rubber boot off, one screw to undo, unplug the switch, spray some in there while pressing the button repeatedly and let it dry completely. Mine is still intermittent sometimes, but mostly registers.
Or go to the wreckers and pull a switch or two off a wreck and hope they work, swap out your faulty one(s)

Noted, cheers. Will hold off action until the next meet which I should be attending with any luck.

Update on this: Checked all the sensors out. Drivers door was intermittent, seemed to make the door light flicker quite a bit when I even lightly touched the button or screw. Obviously a connection issue, took out and plugged back in, visually no problems but still intermittent. Replaced it with drivers side rear which was perfect, now working perfectly on drivers door, obviously rear right hand now dodgy as it has the driver sensor. Will try to get a new button from a wreck at some point for this one.
Passenger door is perfect, rear passenger side door is perfect except that door only has one of two wires leading to it. I tried to pull the lead out further but I could not see the other wire anywhere in the vicinity which explains why that door never triggers. I think I'll just wait until next service and let the dealer fix that one, it's in no way a priority and I don't really want to attempt trying to get in there and finding the problem, then trying to get the wire into the plug as I just have nfi how to do any of that.

It is a simple switch with only 2 wires.
Changing over has proved that the switch is faulty.

Not sure if you read the whole post? One is faulty, the other is completely fine but there is only one wire on that door so no sensor will work there.
